IN MOTION. ART AND SOCCER
“I have never found a difference between Pelé’s pass to Carlos Alberto in the 1970 World Cup final
and the poetry of the young Rimbaud (…). In each of these human expressions there is an expression of beauty that touches us and gives us a sense of eternity.”
Eric Cantona (actor and former soccer player) in the foreword to the book,
which accompanies the exhibition at the German Football Museum.
The preview of the book is available here
With works by Salvador Dali, Aleksandr Deyneka, Bernhard Heisig, Hundertwasser, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Rene Magritte, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Sigmar Polke, Torsten Schlüter, Jens Sondergaard, Rik Wouters …
The catalog brings together a spectacular overview of painting in European modern art on the subject of soccer. Painting reveals the secret of soccer. And vice versa: soccer, with its aesthetics and dynamics, its rituals and contradictions, inspires artists and opens up new, surprising perspectives and artistic possibilities.
